Sitting Bull was born in Grand River c.1831 and died December 15, 1890 on the Standing Rock Reservation. As Holy Man for the Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux, he served as tribal chief during the years of struggle with U.S. Government policies. In 1876, he defeated General George Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn. This notecard displays a genuine U.S. postage stamp in original unused condition in a protective plastic mount to retain the value of the stamp. This stamp was issued on Septemeber 14, 1989 honoring Sitting Bull as part of the Great Americans series of stamps. Notecard is 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".
